Reflecting on the final week of our Black History Month Challenge, I wanted to share a bit more about why I founded Inclusion Unpacked, and why I believe it was essential for allies to participate. As a Black Woman, I realize many DEI resources currently exist and it may feel overwhelming to know where to begin.
My mission in creating Inclusion Unpacked is to always provide tangible tools that you can leverage in your allyship journey because it is a lifelong journey.
You cannot expect to take one DEI course, or read one newsletter, or vote for one president and be finished.
This work will continue until we see and feel a systemic change in America and across the world. Your journey to learning and unlearning is the first step. The journey begins with you. I am thankful for the thousands of allies who have subscribed and taken part in the challenge, and I will continue to provide actionable resources to help you along the way.
If only a fraction of you participated, learned something, or shared this with your community, that is a success.
I want to leave you with two reminders:
Black History is Now. I wanted you to learn about Black leaders of today and throughout history to remind you that Black history now. History doesn’t simply stop at one decade.
Allyship is Life-Long - As an ally, you must commit to learning, un-learning, and doing it all over again for however long it takes. If it feels daunting or overwhelming, think of the BIPOC community who has had to live through racial injustice our entire lives.
Thank you for educating yourself. I am committed to providing the tools necessary to help you along the way.
